Toyokizai

New build administration and storage building for an electrical components company. It is located within a quiet residential area of western Tokyo, but influenced by its immediate position adjacent a busy railway line. The 2 storey building consists of office space at 1st floor, with storage at ground level. The base of the building is clad in galvanised steel panels, treated with phosphoric acid, contrasting with the white stucco volume of the offices above. The main structure stretches out towards the rail track as a 2 storey stucco protective screen. Glimpses of the trains are given through openings in the wall, while shadows animate the wall surface, which reflects indirect light back into the office space.
